Psalm 97 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving. No one deserves our praise and thanksgiving more than Yahweh Elohim for all he has done for us. So let’s praise him together. After all, he is Yahweh Elohim, creator of the universe and all that we see and don’t see.
Rejoice in Yahweh, Earth
Yahweh, you are king. Let the earth rejoice. Let the many coasts and islands be glad.
Clouds and thick darkness surround you, Yahweh. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Fire goes before you, setting ablaze your foes on every side.
Your flashes of lightning light up the world; the earth sees it and trembles. The mountains melt like wax at your presence Yahweh, who is Lord of all the earth. The heavens declare your righteousness, and all the peoples see your glory.
All who worship images will be put to shame. All who make their boast in worthless idols will be put to shame. Bow down to Yahweh, all you gods!
Zion hears and is glad, Yahweh. The daughters of Judah rejoice at your rulings. For you, Yahweh, most high over all the earth, you are exalted far above all gods. We who love you, Yahweh, hate evil!
You keep your faithful servants safe. You rescue them from the power of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous and joy for the upright in heart.
We rejoice in you, Yahweh and give thanks on recalling your holiness.
Halleluyah!
