In the News – Easter Ad Pulled & Student Suspended for Faith

There are so many things going on in the world and that includes the Christian world. Since I read a lot I decided to summarize a few articles I believe are interesting. I hope you enjoy them and get something from them. Sometimes, I find things that are hard to believe. While others articles I expect to see. In any case I just want to share them with you.

Church Easter Service Ad Pulled for Mention of Jesus

By Eryn Sun

Compass Bible Church placed an ad for their Easter’s service with a national theater.  However, their ad was rejected because they used the name Jesus in the advertisement. They were given the opportunity to revise their ad, but they refused. The ad could have run if the church had taken out the name Jesus and added little bunnies and eggs. Or they could have just posted their service time for Easter like other churches.

Compass Bible Church chose not to change their ad. You can view the ad below and read the full article about Jesus’ name causing an uproar. http://www.christianpost.com/news/church-easter-service-ad-pulled-for-mention-of-jesus-49643/.

After viewing the video and reading the article, let me know what you think? Should the church have known better? Do you think this was done deliberately to get more publicity for their church? Or do you feel they are being discriminated against? I would love to know what you think on this topic.

Christian Student Suspended for Sharing Faith Sues School District

By Lillian Kwon

A year ago, Kenneth Dominguez, 16 was excited about receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior over Christmas break. So when he got back to school he began to share his experience. He only shared his new faith with his fellow students during lunch time and in the hallways, never during class times. He wasn’t disruptive in anyway and no one complained. However, the administrator reprimanded him.

Dominguez kept sharing his faith. Then he was told he couldn’t even bring his Bible to school. Eventually, he was suspended for two days. The school refused to admit any wrong so a lawsuit was filed. The lawyer says he receives many requests for help concerning public school religious freedom issues last year alone.

After reading the article, come back and let me know what you think about this. Should Dominguez have filed a lawsuit? Why or why not?
