Whenever we hear the words “Valentine’s Day” we think of love. Between the movies, books, and songs we are bombarded by what love is, what it means, and how to express it. It is a day of love and romance for two people involved with each other. This is a day where two people show how they feel about each.
A woman looks forward to this day because it is the day that her man shows her how much he loves her. The operative word here is “show.” During this holiday he shows her by taking her out to dinner so she doesn’t have to cook. He buys her pretty things to show her how pretty she is to him. He gives her a card to express what he can’t normally say. This is the day for action. This is the day to prove what he’s been saying all along.
But all of this love fails in comparison to God’s love. God’s love transcends every material thing we can buy or ever think about buying. His love transcends the touchy feeling love that the media has taught us to believe in. Real love comes from knowing and being intimate with God Almighty first for he is love. If we don’t love him then how can we love one another? Fortunately for us, His word teaches us what real love is.
:: Love is patient and kind.
:: Love does not envy.
:: Love does not boast, nor is it proud.
:: Love is not rude.
:: Love is not self-seeking.
:: Love is not easily angered and it keeps no record of wrongs.
:: Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
:: Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.
:: Love never fails.
God displayed all of these ingredients of what real love entails when he sent his son to die for us. Now to have a love affair it has to be two sided. (Side Note: In order to even start a love affair with Yahweh Elohim you have to accept Yeshua as your Messiah and repent of all of you sins.)
If on this Valentine’s Day you already belong to him then what are you doing to show God how you feel about him? What are your actions saying? What proof do you have that you love God as much as he loves you? Would a jury have enough evidence to find you guilty of loving God?
