Psalm 89 is a maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite, who was a very wise man. He lived during the reign of King Solomon, who is considered the wisest man who ever lived or will ever live. King Solomon is compared to Ethan in wisdom. (1 Kings 4:29:31) The Hebrew word “maskil” literally means “enlightened.” This psalm is about Elohim’s acts in the earth and how those acts show His faithfulness. From the heavens to the earth, from Elohim’s throne to His footstool, there is no one like Him. There is no one who can compare to Him. Everything and everyone should praise Him for that. And when you understand this you are truly enlightened.

Who is Like You, Yahweh
I sing about your acts of grace forever, Yahweh. With my mouth I proclaim your faithfulness to all generations because I said, “Grace is built to last forever; in the heavens themselves you established your faithfulness.”
You said, “I made a covenant with the one I chose. I swore to my servant David, ‘I will establish your dynasty forever and build up your throne through all generations.’” (Selah)
Let the heavens praise your wonders, Yahweh, your faithfulness in the assembly of the angels.
For who in the skies can be compared with you Yahweh?
Which of these gods can rival you Yahweh, a God dreaded in the great assembly of the holy ones and feared by all around him?
Yahweh Elohei-Tzva’ot! Who is as mighty as you, Yah? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You control the raging of the sea; when its waves rear up, you calm them.
You crushed Rahav like a carcass; with your strong arm you scattered your foes.
The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; you founded the world and everything in it. You created north and south; Tavor and Hermon take joy in your name.
Your arm is mighty; your hand is strong; your right hand is lifted high.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; grace and truth attend you.
How happy are we the people who know the joyful shout! They walk in the light of your presence, Yahweh.
We rejoice in your name all day and are lifted up by your righteousness, for you yourself are the strength in which we glory.
Our power grows by pleasing you, for our shield comes from you Yahweh – our king is from the Holy One of Israel.
